Heating Element Types

Cartridge
Cartridge heaters are high efficiency heating elements. Diameters of cartridge heaters range from .25" to 1.25". Watt densities from 25 W/in2 to 200 W/in2 and sheath temperatures to 1600°F. Optional end seals resist contaminants and moisture from entering inside the heater as operating temperatures increase. Busch Electronics provides a variety of sizes, wattage ratings, voltages and protective features to meet many challenging applications.

Band
Band heaters grip tightly to cylindrical surfaces to supply uniform heat transfer, critical to the heater life. Hotwatt band heaters are flexible and come in one or two-piece construction for easy installation and removal. Accommodate diameters as small as 15/16" and as large as 20" and capable of reaching temperatures of 1600°F. Stainless steel braids and conduit protect terminations and resist contamination. Completely customize your heater by specifying exact physical dimensions, material, electric ratings and terminations.

Cast-In
Cast-in heaters are custom designed for contour and multi-plane, clamp-on applications. Many sizes and contours are available to accommodate machined and cast contact surfaces that require close tolerances. Holes, cutouts or slots to accommodate thermocouples or machine obstructions provided when required. From as short as 2.5" to as long as 30", cast-in heaters provide operating temperatures to 1200°F with watt densities to 40 W/in2. Select from aluminum alloys, bronze alloys and iron cast materials.

Thin Blade
Thin Blade heater elements provide more surface area than standard tubular elements to offer greater wattage or lower watt densities. Select from many sheath materials with watt densisites to 75 W/in2 and temperatures as high as1200°F. Heating elements can be as long as 120" and are capable of being formed into many configurations for heating via immersion, direct surface contact or convection. Three wire construction within the element provides uniform heating. Available in single or 3-phase current terminations with a 120 to 480 volt range.

Silicone Laminate/Flexible
Silicone Laminate/Flexible heaters are versatile and provide solutions to a vast number of low to medium temperature applications. Heaters are manufactured with rugged light-weight materials providing chemical and moisture resistance with operating temperatures to 390°F. Wire elements are durable and wound precisely within the structure for optimal performance. A variety of electrical, shape and contour fitting to meet many specifications.

Circulation
Circulation heaters consist of a screwplug or flanged type immersion heater mounted in a thermally insulated heating chamber. Designed to provide high heating efficiency to a flowing medium (liquid, steam, air or gas) by in-line or side-arm operation. Circulation heaters can be designed to withstand pressures to 500 psi and temperatures to 1200°F. Busch Electronics can provide thermocouple sensors to connect to most any controller or provide bulb & capillary type controls. Complete skid mounted packages available with controls. Select from many terminal enclosures, sheath and vessel materials, flanged connections an controls. Power ratings range from 1.5 to 2000 kW, with some units meeting UL, CSA, VDE and ASME codes.

Flanged Immersion
Flanged Immersion heater construction is similar to the screwplug immersion heater with elements joined to a flange (36" max. dia.) that mates witha a matching companion flange in a vessel wall. Ideal for generating steam or heating gases and liquids for use in pressure vessels and tanks. Factory designed with a wide selection of ANSI and custom sized flanges for industrail and OEM applications. Element lengths to 240" long and rated up to 500 kW with watt densities to suit many applications. Busch Electronics can also rebuild large flanged heaters to save you money. Most units are UL Listed and CSA Certified.

Process Air
Process Air heaters include a broad variety of stock and custom designs to heat air or other gases in ducts, autoclaves or ovens. They employ an assembly of sheathed tubular, finned tubular or finned strip elements in various configurations that consistently outperform gas, oil and open coil electric heaters. Process air heaters are available in boltages to 600V, ratings to 3.2 megawatts and application temperatures to 1200°F. Applications include warming, drying, preheating, curing and heat treating. Elements are available separately for use in OEM equipment such as space heaters and computer room conditioning systems.

Over-the-Side Immersion
Over-the-side Immersion heaters occupy little workspace, require no tank penetrations, and are easily withdrawn for servicing and replacement. They are immersed within a tank to evenly distribute heat in a variety of applications including acid or alkali solutions. Customize your heater from a wide variety of voltages, sheath materials, kW ratings, shapes, integrated thermostats, element configurations and mounting methods.

Strip/Ring/Disc
Strip/Ring/Disc heating elements are rugged and easy to install for heat transfer by conduction or convection to heat liquids, air, gases and surfaces with temperatures to 1500°F and watt densities to 35 W/in2. Common applications include drying, melting, baking and curing. Strip heater sizes range from .5" wide to 2.5" and lengths to 72" long. Heaters bolt or clamp to many surfaces. Nested rin heaters can provide concentrated heat in small areas. Select from many sheath materials, termination styles, operating temperatures, sizes, voltages, wattage ratings and mounting devices.
